Question
Is a disposable cup really that bad?
Answer
Wastage is a worldwide issue and disposable cups have a shocking environmental impact!

In the UK, vending machines dispense some 3 billion polystyrene cups annually and in USA alone there are an estimated 25 billion disposable coffee cups thrown away each year. Sadly most disposable cups end up in landfill sites.

Even many paper cups are coated in a special plastic film, preventing them from being recycled with normal paper waste.

Question
I use paper cups, that's OK isn't it?
Answer
Disposable cups are thought to be made of cardboard, but in reality they also contain a small percentage of polyethylene. The addition of polyethylene means paper cups cannot be recycled, as most UK paper mills are unable to process "mixed materials".
